Recently a walking friend started talking about Rosedale. This is a valley in the North Yorkshire moors where my husband and I spent our ‘secret’ honeymoon.
We stayed in one of these cottages which belonged to a friend of my in-laws. In this area there is history of ironstone mining from 1855 to 1926 and I expect they had been built for the miners.
Then 25 years later for our Silver Wedding celebration in 1991 we revisited the area and were delighted to find the terraced houses had been renovated with front gardens full of flowers. However this time we stayed in more luxury at The Blacksmiths Arms.
Mountain bikes had been loaded on the car and we had fun exploring wonderful trails over the moors.
Back to my wedding day which you will have worked out was in 1966. It was on the World Cup day when England beat Germany. Many years later when our boys were in their formative years football became an important fixture in our household. This year would have been our Golden celebration and the family thoughtfully brought round a bouquet for me.
